The invention of the wheel, transform the society and its need for transportation. The invention of Zero, transform the society in mathematics (calculation) and commercialization of goods and services.
We are here to evaluate, the impact of technology on a human society at large?
Technological changes are happening every day at an exponential rate which started from the digital era. Now advanced technologies such as internet of things (IoT), machine learning, drones, big data and analytics, data clouds, Genomics, nanotechnology, robotics, cryptocurrency, augmented reality, virtual reality, Artificial intelligence, Space travel, self-driving cars, home automation, 3D printing, wearable techs are advancing the human needs and society expectations.
Above all these innovations there is another segment of realistic society specific tech, a live science which is shaping the society at another level.
Technology Reshaping [Live Science]:
Now, with the live science technologies, you could do amazing stuff, new clothes will not have any stains, robots will cook food for you and do babysitting, you could fly as an ironman etc. Few of the projects which are related to live sciences mentioned below will give a broader view of technology direction, into the future of society.
- Beam of Invisibility’ Could Hide Objects Using Light
- Real-Life Superpower: ‘See’ Around Corners with Smartphone Tech
- Stretchy Artificial ‘Skin’ Could Give Robots a Sense of Touch
- ‘Atomic Fingerprinting’ Tech Could End Counterfeit Goods
- Hybrid Driving-Flying Robots Could Go Beyond the Flying Car
- Double windows used as Solar Panels, house roofs used as solar panels
- ‘Wired’ roads Could power electric Cars as you drive
- A House was 3D printed in less than 24 Hours
Though the cost of affording, these new innovation is very high, it will become normal and accessible in no time.
“Our challenges may be different from hunter-gatherers’, but our hardwiring is not”
Human behavior is influenced by the desire to achieve and succeed. Social psychology which is a branch of evolutionary psychology suggests, about the conditions, under which human beings cooperate, compete, and behave aggressively. Their findings of universal patterns explain, which impulses and reactions are hardwired into the human psyche with some conflicts of understanding such as ‘people can change their personalities if correctly trained or motivated’.
“Much of that brain’s programming was already in place, an inheritance from prehumen ancestors”
Section credits to Nigel Nicholson who is a professor of organizational behavior at London Business School
The 7 pillars of society beliefs system are love, money, philosophy, politics, religions, science and the truth which is further segmented into a group of people who want either knowledge or power or both.
We classify people into 5 types of the generation who have different theories and priorities because of diversity in education, experience, perceptions, availability of resources etc.
- Gen Z, iGen, or Centennials: Born 1996 and later.
- Millennials or Gen Y: Born 1977 to 1995.
- Generation X: Born 1965 to 1976.
- Baby Boomers: Born 1946 to 1964.
- Traditionalists or Silent Generation: Born 1945 and before.
The above graph is explaining the priorities of professionals falling under millennial, GenX and boomers category and their choices/priorities. The important thing to evaluate here is the difference in tech-savvy which has changed from 4% -> 18% ->78%
More the reach and willingness of technology, more the learning, ease, and adaptability.
Last Minute Thoughts:
Human behavior has the tendency for adaption towards the good of society and has network effects in their approach. The technological transformation is having a great impact on society and is influenced by their human desire, behaviors, and psychology. It’s time for us to predict the future and in conjunction with it design the direction of innovation.
